Explainer

What Is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server?

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server is a lightweight service that exposes a tool's API to an AI agent through a single open standard. Instead of writing custom integrations for every tool in your stack, you install the MCP server once — and your agent can immediately read, write, and take actions inside that tool using plain language.

MCP is an open standard published by Anthropic and supported by major AI platforms including Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, and OpenAI. When you install the HubSpot MCP server, for example, you can ask your agent to "pull all open deals from HubSpot and draft follow-up emails for any that haven't been updated in two weeks" — and it works.

🔌

One standard, every tool

MCP replaces one-off API integrations. Install once; your agent understands the tool's full capability.

🤖

Works with any MCP-compatible agent

Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, and any agent built on MCP can use the same server — no rebuilding.

🔒

You control access

MCP servers authenticate with OAuth or API keys. Your agent only gets the permissions you grant.
